- For Twilight star Kristen Stewart, life is just a big Adventureland [ CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE ]
Vampire romance "Twilight" hurtled Kristen Stewart to the kind of fame that can turn a life into a roller coaster ride, so it seems appropriate that her new movie revolves around an amusement park."Adventureland," which premiered this week at the Sundance Film Festival, is one of a string of quirky movies Stewart, 18, has starred-in since her first film at age 11.
But none of those movies ever brought the actress the sort of attention she has received the last two months since "Twilight" struck gold at box offices with more than $324 million worldwide since its November debut.
In the movie, Stewart portrayed Bella Swan, a love-struck teen adored by millions of young girls after they began devouring the series of books on which the movie is based.
Stewart is a child of Hollywood -- the daughter of a stage manager and a script supervisor -- and her Los Angeles upbringing provided a close up view of fame that has helped her handle the three-ring media circus of Hollywood celebrity.
"I grew up on a set," she told Reuters at Sundance. "I don't take it as seriously, and then at the same time I take it more seriously than anyone. It's like a balance."
"Adventureland" is a coming-of-age movie about a recent college graduate named James, played by "The Squid and the Whale" star Jesse Eisenberg, who takes a summer job at an amusement park.
There, he falls in love with a tortured but sincere young carnival worker named Em Lewin (Stewart) and finds that true love is an adventure in and of itself.
THE MEDIA GLARE
Miramax Films will release the movie in March, following its premiere at Sundance -- the No. 1 U.S. gathering for independent film. At the festival, a quirky and offbeat love story like "Adventureland" can gain the kind of media attention it needs to lure audiences to box offices.
"Adventureland" director Greg Mottola, who made 2007 hit comedy "Superbad," said he has counseled Stewart about handling fame and fortune because the microscopic scrutiny by the media can be overwhelming for a teenager.
"I think there are some people who have some innate movie star gene that lets them just walk into that, like a George Clooney," he said. "But it didn't happen to him when he was that young. So I feel for her, that's a really hard thing."
She may be young, but Stewart already is something of a veteran and appears to handle the media glare well and she wants to stay active in Hollywood.
Already she has 16 movies on her filmography including "Panic Room," "The Cake Eaters," "Into the Wild" and "What Just Happened." Her first role was 2001's "The Safety of Objects," about suburban families whose lives intertwine.
With upcoming roles as rocker Joan Jett in a biopic and again playing Bella in "New Moon," the next installment in the "Twilight" franchise, Stewart said she has no immediate plans to attend college.
"Not now, maybe if I can grow up a little bit," she said. "But not yet, I can't. It's just I've had a lot of demands put on me for quite a long time."

- Kristen Stewart Hangs With Joan Jett, Preps For ‘Runaways’ Biopic
Last month, “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart made big news with the announcement that she’d soon be portraying another headstrong, no-nonsense tough girl with a disarming beauty and a wicked attitude: the one and only Joan Jett.
Recently we caught up with KStew at Sundance to get her thoughts on “New Moon” her upcoming film “Adventureland” and the biopic that will soon have her putting another dime in the jukebox, baby.
“I’m, like, vibrating,” grinned Stewart when we asked about “The Runaways,” a 1970’s-era flick about the influential all-girl rock band fronted by Jett and Lita Ford. “I’m just so excited about that movie.”
“I’m really, exceedingly, more excited than normal,” she laughed.
Directed by Floria Sigismondi, the flick will tell the story of the teenage band who were brought together and thrown into leather and lace, performing such sneer-filled songs as “Cherry Bomb.” Although they barely lasted four years and only put out a handful of albums, the band was able to overcome their sleazy “jailbait” gimmick to become an influential punk band that would eventually help birth such successors as The Breeders, L7 and The Donnas.
Joan Jett herself has signed on to be the film’s executive producer, and Stewart revealed to us that not only is she currently hard at work picking up old guitar riffs, but she’s also been spending quality time with the durable rock goddess herself.
“Yeah, I spent New Year’s with her,” Kristen said of her new buddy Joan Jett. “I spent, like hours, just talking to her.”
“The Runaways” hopes to begin filming near the end of 2009, and will follow the all-girl band from their mid-70’s formation to their late-70’s collapse. After their music – typically songs about sex, booze and life on the streets – died down, Jett (born Joan Larkin) went on to become one of the most popular female rockers of the early Eighties. Backed by the Blackhearts, her attitude-filled hits “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,” “Crimson and Clover” and “Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)” took her to the top of the charts and launched Jett on a successful career that still has her recording albums and touring extensively while she proudly maintains her punk attitude at age 48.
“It’s been great,” KStew said of her recent tutelage by Joan Jett.
Does Kristen Stewart have what it takes to play Joan Jett? What other “Twilight” stars would you like to see portraying famous musicians?Labels: kristen stewart, news, runaways
- Stewart's success easier to stomach PARK CITY, Utah -- Her gut can thank Twilight. "I can only work on something," Kristen Stewart says, "if I feel like throwing up if I don't get to do it." Nothing like sudden stardom and a worldwide gross of $325 million to settle the stomach.
"It's made doing the stuff that I really care about much easier," she says of these past few post-Twilight months. "I wanted to do a couple projects for years, and now suddenly my entire year is booked."
First, though, Stewart will be seen in Adventureland, a buzzed-about, coming-of-age tale here at the Sundance indie film festival from director Greg Mottola (Superbad). Set in 1987, it's about a college graduate (Jesse Eisenberg) who falls in love with a troubled carnival worker (Stewart).
Although she shot it before Twilight sank its teeth into box-office coffers, Adventureland will unquestionably benefit from Stewart's new pop-culture cache when it opens in March. Like all of Stewart's future films, it takes place a world apart from the gloomily romantic realm of Stephenie Meyer's blood-guzzlers. That said, she insists she isn't picking roles to purposely distance herself from her Twilight heroine Bella Swan.
"It's not been a deliberate thing, like I want to stay away from Twilight as much as I can."
And it's doubtful she could if she tried. Even here at the hip apex of independent cinema, the 18-year-old Hollywood native has been mobbed by autograph- and snapshot-seeking fans. Besides which, she'll soon be returning to the franchise. The sequel New Moon begins shooting in March for a November release. Spending the Twilight equity she has acquired might actually keep her in the business longer.
"If I kept reading scripts I was dying to do and they kept saying, 'No, no, no,' then I wouldn't be able to do this anymore. There are actors who start out differently, then when they can't maintain what they're into anymore, they do whatever comes their way. I couldn't do that. I would look baffled in every frame I did. I'd just look confused and bored."
One high-profile project in the works is the Joan Jett biopic Runaways, named after the moniker of Jett's all-girl rock band. Stewart reports she already has met with Jett, whom she'll portray.
"It's weird. I don't know how you could say the coolest person you've ever met is also the least intimidating person you've ever met, but she is. She's a really cool person."
And Stewart is not going to let a small detail -- like the fact she can't sing -- keep her from belting it out.
"I can yell," Stewart says, smiling. "I can do what she does."
Soderbergh makes a porno
The Sundance sex hasn't simmered down yet.
Following Ashton Kutcher's gigolo comedy Spread and Humpday (sort of an all-male Zack and Miri Make a Porno) director Steven Soderbergh dropped in to unspool an unfinished cut of The Girlfriend Experience on Wednesday night. Shot for a scant $1.7 million, the indie casts real-life porn star Sasha Grey as a high-end Manhattan hooker. Any similarities to former New York governors living or dead are, it is believed, purely coincidental.

- Kristen Stewart Confident In Taylor Lautner For 'New Moon' PARK CITY, Utah — Whether you're a Twilighter or completely uninitiated into the world of the fanpires, you likely know that 18-year-old Kristen Stewart is a fast-rising actress, as proud of her indie films as she is for breaking through as Bella Swan. On Monday, she blew into Sundance to premiere her buzz-heavy movie "Adventureland" — and dodge a few paparazzi along the way.
But you didn't think we'd let her escape without answering some "New Moon" questions, did you?
"I'm really excited," she beamed, happily offering some of her first public comments about the big-budget "Twilight" sequel since a number of controversies have simmered, boiled and then been resolved over the past few weeks.
Regardless of her excitement, however, the always-frank Stewart admitted that the film's fast turnaround, higher visibility and directorial change still needs to serve as a caution to the "Twilight" crew. "It's such a machine now. All of a sudden, this movie has become [something bigger]," she explained. "With all the expectations — usually, you make a movie and think, 'If it touches people, great; if it doesn't, then you move on to the next one, and no one's personally affected by it.' [But] everyone's really sensitive with any changes right now.
"Everyone needs to be on the same page to make the same movie [as the original 'Twilight' was]," she said of the upcoming "New Moon" shoot. "Or else it will be a very disoriented project."
